Richard J. Lehmann - Founder
Rich is the founding principal of The Biltmore Bank of Arizona. He began his banking career with Citibank in 1969. When he left in 1988 he was Senior Corporate Officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He then became Chairman and CEO of Valley National Bank until the bank was sold to Bank One in 1993. In 1995 he was appointed President and COO and elected to the Bank One Board. After the merger with First Chicago National Bank of Detroit he became Vice Chairman of the combined entity with responsibility for all consumer banking activities. Rich retired from Bank One on December 31, 1999, and moved back to Arizona and began planning the foundation of Biltmore Bank.
Rich also serves on the Knight Transportation Company Board and the TGen Foundation Board. He has previously served on the boards of Valley National Bank, Bank One, Moore Corporation, Central Newspapers, eFunds, iCrossing, the Board of Trustees of Thunderbird School of Global Management, and the Mayo Clinic Advisory Board. Prior civic activities include board participation in Phoenix Art Museum, Ohio State University Hospital, Greater Phoenix Leadership, United Way of Greater Phoenix (campaign Chairman), and the Nature Conservancy.
John T. Byrd - Executive Vice President & Senior Regioinal Credit Administrator
A native Arizonan, John’s entire banking career has been based in Arizona. Previously he was with Bank One, Arizona and its predecessor bank, Valley National. He held the position of Regional Senior Credit Officer and was responsible for a $9 billion commercial credit portfolio in the six-state region of Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah.
John has been active in the community for many years, serving on the boards of the Valley of the Sun YMCA, Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, Valley of the Sun Communities in Schools, Midtown Rotary Club, Yuma Fine Arts Association, and Yuma Rotary Club. He has been active in Junior Achievement, and Friends of Mexican Art. On a professional basis, John has been a member and an instructor for the Risk Management Association and the Arizona Bankers Association.
